“A New Chapter at No.8”: The Platt Family Rebuilds as Fans Demand More Makeovers

Genoa City may have Victor Newman, but over on Coronation Street, it’s David Platt who’s stealing the spotlight — not for drama in the Rovers, but for the dramatic transformation of No.8, the long-standing Platt family home.

After the disastrous fire caused by Max Turner in a failed insurance scheme, the beloved property was left in ruins. Max, caught in a desperate plan to help stepdad David clear their debts to dangerous gangster Harvey Gaskell, ignited more than just the home — he sparked a storm of family crisis. Trapped in the fire while searching for his sister Lily, Max survived but later faced Shona’s fury and ultimately turned himself in. He’s now serving over six years behind bars, moved to a Scottish prison for safety.

But out of the ashes comes something bold, fresh, and totally unexpected.

In Monday’s episode (June 9), fans got their first glimpse at the new and improved No.8 — a complete redesign unveiled as David scrambled under Shona’s orders to finish the final touches. And now, thanks to Corrie’s Instagram page, we’ve had an up-close look at the rebirth of the Platt home.Coronation Street fans 'figure out' culprit for Platt house fire in sick revenge twist - Liverpool Echo

Production designer Rosie shared that the set was rebuilt over three months, focusing on creating a space that reflects the personalities of David, Shona, and Lily — with plenty of cheeky nods to Audrey, who now resides in the annex. That’s right: while Gail may be gone from the main house, her mother Audrey has swooped in, insisting on her own recliner, private entrance, and a massive portrait of the late Alf, now hanging proudly in the living room.

“The set is more open-plan,” Rosie revealed, “with an industrial-influenced kitchen, a contemporary breakfast bar, and personal artwork scattered throughout — including a hilarious addition: a dining table that transforms into a pool table for David.”

Even David the dog wasn’t forgotten, with quirky art pieces showcasing his importance to the family. And yes — Vin Diesel the weasel has made a surprise comeback after being MIA for years.

The design blends moody greys, warm tan and orange tones, and modern geometric details to reflect the family’s evolving tastes — and fans are loving it.

Corrie fans flooded social media with calls for more home upgrades on the Street. “Now do Fiz and Tyrone’s!” one viewer posted. “That wallpaper makes me nauseous!” Others begged for the decorators to visit Kevin and Abi, with one fan joking, “Please sort out Kev’s wallpaper — it’s a crime scene!”

While the Platt family settles into their new space and Audrey adjusts to life in the annex, viewers are already buzzing about who might get the next makeover. But one thing’s for certain — with drama, history, and now a brand-new look, No.8 Coronation Street has never felt more alive.
