Back to the Beat: Chicago Fire Cast Member Wants Crossover With SVU — A Decade in the Making

One Chicago Fire cast member is ready for a new crossover with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The two Dick Wolf-created shows last crossed over more than a decade ago, during the 2014–15 television season.

Hudon’s dream crossover isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility, considering that both Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU were renewed earlier this month for their 14th and 27th seasons, respectively. Also returning for the 2025–26 television season are the programs’ sister shows Chicago P.D. (Season 13), Chicago Med (Season 11), and Law & Order (Season 25). However, potentially standing in the way of a Chicago Fire/Law & Order: SVU crossover is the fact that the two franchises haven’t crossed over in almost seven years. The last crossover was in 2018, with Carl Weathers’ State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies from Chicago Justice swinging by SVU for a guest appearance in the Season 20 episode “Zero Tolerance.”

Are Stella Kidd & Kelly Severide Having a Baby on Chicago Fire?

Law & Order: SVU Season 27 will come with some noticeable changes both in front and behind the camera. Michele Fazekas has closed a deal to become the first female showrunner for SVU, beginning with Season 27, while actors Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano are not returning, with the Season 26 finale serving as their final episode as series regulars. Martinez joined the SVU cast this past season as Detective Kate Silva, while Pisano has been with the drama series since Season 23 as undercover detective Joe Velasco.

Crossover Episodes Remain All the Rage

Crossover episodes, especially within franchises, remain popular on network television. NCIS and One Chicago were among the franchises to include crossovers during their 2024–25 television season. 9-1-1 also got in on the fun, with Angela Bassett’s LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant stopping by Doctor Odyssey to lend a hand with a suspected robbery. While he was absent from the crossover, Bassett’s 9-1-1 co-star Oliver Stark is hoping to one day be part of his own multi-show crossover. The actor even went so far as to pitch his dream crossover back in March, revealing that he’d want the worlds of 9-1-1 and The Rookie to come together.
