The only continuing show in the FBI franchise set to return this fall is now in production. Following the cancellation of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, the FBI franchise might be smaller, but its impact is still big. To celebrate the beginning of production on FBI Season 8, Dick Wolf’s production company, Wolf Entertainment, shared a post on Instagram with stars from some Wolf-produced shows. Among them is a shot of FBI stars Zeeko Zaki and Missy Peregrym, who are caught in a light moment with generous laughs on their faces. It’s a stark contrast to their characters in the police procedural, who rarely laugh, given the nature of the job.
FBI returns for Season 8 amid concerns that the organization has been infiltrated. Season 7 featured a showdown between the team and a shadowy organization, Forefront. Despite the team claiming victory, they remained uncertain whether Forefront had more members who had not been caught. The season also ended on a cliffhanger following the collapse of Isobel (Alana De La Garza) in the bullpen. “It would be a huge blow to the office and to Jubal and to obviously the show as well,” series star Jeremy Sisto said of the potential for Isobel’s demise. “Literally, you have to tune in to see. It is a legit cliffhanger,” said De La Garza.

FBI might be the only continuing show that is returning, but it won’t be alone. CIA is a new procedural inspired by the FBI, which will debut during the midseason premieres at CBS. Sisto’s Jubal has made cameos in the two cancelled shows on regular occasions and hopes to appear on the Tom Ellis-led show. “This new CIA show is something that I’m hoping to be a part of,” he told Screen Rant. “I hope that Jubal Valentine can help out with the CIA situation, but you don’t know. We don’t know if it will happen. I don’t know if I will get the call. We’ll see. But Jubal would love it,” he added.
Ellis stars on CIA as Hart Hoxton. “He is charming, smart, demanding, unpredictable, and funny, and he also operates in a very different world than traditional law enforcement. It will be fun to watch Tom take over this character and make him his own – he’s such a gifted actor,” showrunner David Hudgins said, teasing the character and Ellis’ performance. Teasing the character, Ellis added:
“He’s someone who, like many people who work for the CIA, has to use guile and deceit and lies to get what he wants. So there’s a large dose of moral ambiguity that comes with him, but that’s part of his job. So whilst that is, you know, not great for people in actual life, for a TV audience, it’s wonderful entertainment. So, yeah.”
