Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has opened up about the future of her character, Chas Dingle, and her fiancé Liam Cavanagh, teasing that while their relationship is currently in a good place, drama is never far behind.
Chas and Liam’s relationship has had its ups and downs, but after rekindling their romance last year, the couple became engaged. However, both characters have faced life-threatening situations recently, leaving fans to wonder about the potential obstacles ahead.
“I love Chas and Liam together,” Lucy said in an exclusive interview during a photoshoot for the Inside Soap Awards 2025. “He makes her calm and brings her some peace. And he’s got a great bromance with her brother Cain too!”
While their relationship is stable for now, Lucy hinted that the couple’s journey is far from smooth sailing. “Who knows what the future holds for them? You can never get too comfortable. Something’s going to have to happen to them. But at the moment, they’re doing pretty well.”
Fans of the couple will recall that Chas and Liam were initially set to get married earlier this year. However, they decided to postpone their wedding and gave their original wedding slot to Aaron and John. So, when can viewers expect the long-awaited nuptials to take place?
“I don’t know!” Lucy laughed. “Please let’s film their wedding in the summer so we don’t have to be out in the freezing cold.”
Lucy even joked about a potential elopement, saying, “Maybe they should elope so we could go on location? The Dingles went to Spain years ago while I was off on maternity leave and I just missed out.”
The Dingles are nominated for Best Family at the Inside Soap Awards this year, and Lucy expressed how honored she is to be a part of this iconic family for over 20 years. “Everyone can relate to the Dingles. There’s always a Dingle on your street or in your family, so I think that’s what makes them quite popular.”
Reflecting on her time in the show, Lucy said, “I think we bring quite a lot of ourselves to the family, so I think we’re either morphing into the Dingles or we’re just getting more comfortable with each other. But it’s incredible, I don’t want to be a part of any other family.”
Chas also played a major role in Emmerdale’s dramatic limo crash earlier this year, which is nominated for Best Showstopper at the awards. “The limo crash – that was freezing!” Lucy recalled. “It was night shoots, and it was long, long nights of cold. But it was brilliant, it was like being on a night out. By the end of it, we were delirious, and we were fed like queens. We had about six or seven meals, so it was great!”
When asked why Emmerdale deserves fans’ support in the Best Soap category, Lucy shared, “I think people vote with their heart, and with what they’ve connected with the most. So if you’ve connected with anything, or if you’ve enjoyed watching, that’s the reason you should vote!”
