Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding has teased big drama for the Platts after Shona’s recent pregnancy twist.
Monday’s episode saw David Platt experience a rollercoaster of emotions when he discovered a positive pregnancy test in his bin. The hairdresser assumed one of his neighbours was “knocked up”, as Carla Connor and Lisa Swain had been putting their rubbish in his bins.
However, while David gossiped with Sarah, she suggested that the test might actually belong to his young daughter Lily, given her stomach ache earlier that morning.
Fortunately for a horrified David, his wife Shona later revealed that that she was the one who was pregnant. But will a new arrival bring calm or chaos into the family?
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards, Goulding shared her excitement for Shona’s new storyline and hinted at a big challenge for the Platts.
“I feel like I’ve been pregnant for the last five years of my life, to be honest, having my own two! But no, I’m really excited. There’s going to be lots of drama along the way,” she said.
“Obviously I can’t tell you too much about what happens – if anything does happen, who knows? But I’m really excited to see this next chapter as Shona and David try to handle it.”

The star agreed that David and Shona are due some happiness after a difficult few months which saw Shona cheating on David with Kit Green, the Platt house burning down, matriarch Gail leaving Weatherfield and David’s stepson Max going to prison.
“You know, it really does [feel like they deserve some good news],” Goulding said, adding: “But where would the fun in that be?”
Meanwhile, though they might not be dealing with a surprise pregnancy, newly-engaged Carla and Lisa will face their own challenge with the return of Lisa’s wife Becky Swain. Becky, who was presumed dead, made a shocking appearance on Monday’s episode. But what will this mean for Swarla?
