“He’s going to tangle the story even further.”
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street‘s Amy Cudden has explained DI Costello’s “complicated” role in Becky Swain’s return plot.
As soon as DS Lisa Swain began looking into her wife’s death, it was clear that her boss Costello knew more than he was letting on. The detective inspector warned DC Kit Green to stay out of his business, and even hired a fake ‘Tia Wardley’ to throw Lisa off the scent.
Last week, viewers were stunned to learn that Becky was actually alive and had been in hiding, following a failed undercover case. When a local woman was killed, DI Costello identified the body as Becky’s so she could escape the criminal gang that was after her.
Lisa was heartbroken to discover her wife’s betrayal, having grieved her for years. But how will Costello react to Becky’s risky return?
“What we know so far about Becky and Costello’s relationship is just the tip of the iceberg; what’s underneath is much more complicated and hidden,” teased Cudden, who plays Becky.
“It will be a lot of fun watching that unfold. Daon Bruni (DI Costello) is amazing and a brilliant scene partner. He’s going to tangle the story even further and create more brilliant drama and mess.”
In next week’s episodes, Costello issues a stern warning to Becky, reminding her that they could both end up in prison if anyone sees her. He insists that she lays low while in Weatherfield, but Becky is determined to see her daughter Betsy.
Meanwhile, Lisa is on the warpath and storms into the station to confront her boss. She demands to know everything about Becky’s fake death and when Costello refuses, she threatens to leak the story to the media.
Will Costello finally reveal the whole truth or is there more to the cover-up than meets the eye?
