Actor Jonathan Howard – who plays Carl Webster in the ITV soap – opened up when he appeared on Loose Women

The actor can’t see his daughter every day when he’s filming
Coronation Street‘s Jonathan Howard has expressed his “heartbreak” over the fact that his soap role means he can’t see his daughter every day.

The actor lives in the US but is currently in the UK filming his part as Carl Webster in the ITV soap. While he is working on the cobbles, he is away from his wife, Daredevil actress Elodie Yung, and their seven-year-old daughter, who are still at home across the pond.

Opening up on ITV’s Loose Women on Wednesday, he said: “The hardest part of this job is the heartbreak, I feel, for, you know, not being with my daughter every day.”

However, the actor said his daughter has been able to visit him in the UK, where he spends weekends at home with his family, staying in his childhood bedroom.

“In America, they have long summer holidays,” he said. “So, this summer, she was able to come and stay at my mum’s house.

“I grew up an hour away from Corrie, a little village in Lancashire. And so, that was really beautiful.
“You know, my daughter’s lived her whole life in America. My wife is French. And so she got to come over to England for the summer and hang out with my niece and my nephew.”

Jonathan previously auditioned for Corrie 20 years ago, when he was after the role of Gary Windass. However, he lost out to Mikey North.
“I did the screen test and at the same time I was auditioning for drama school,” he said.
“And at the time, Coronation Street, you know, was the ceiling. As a kid, I grew up watching it. And, you know, so many great memories of watching it with my mum, my dad, my sister, and my brother. And to have been doing that at 20 years old was the dream.
“I didn’t get it. And Mikey North has done an amazing job.”

“The part was for him,” Jonathan said, adding that “it was a really good lesson of knowing what is yours and what’s not”. “The universe kind of steers you in the right direction,” he said.

The actor said that because he didn’t get the part, he went to drama school and met his wife.
