Former Emmerdale character Jamie Tate seeming glided into the the village, caused utter carnage and then glided away (via a faked death).

Actor Alexander Lincoln has revealed, however, that he’s not quite as graceful as his alter ego.

Alexander, who assumed the role of the adult Jamie Tate, son of undisputed ‘Dales royalty, Kim Tate (Claire King) and brought him to life between 2019 and 2021 sat down for an interview with Attitude magazine recently.

In a quick-fire question video with questions based on puns created from his name, he revealed that he’d previously auditioned for Dancing on Ice and failed to secure a spot on the cast.

In the Alexander ‘Rink’-on portion of the interview (following Alexander ‘Ink’-on, in which he revealed he had a ‘hot girl summer’ tattoo), he was asked if he’d seen the 2018 film I, Tonya.

‘I have,’ he laughed. ‘I am terrible at ice skating. I did the worst, worst audition for Dancing on Ice once, in which I didn’t get it,’ he added.

‘It wasn’t family-friendly enough.’

Upon Kim Tate’s triumphant return to Emmerdale, she was a pretty loathsome character, though show bosses attempted to show a more human side to her as she desperately sought to be reunited with her son.

Enter Alexander, the newest incarnation of Jamie, who was immediately involved in a car crash. Though Kim tried her hardest to tend to her son, he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with her.

Though things eventually softened between mother and son, it became clear that sweet-natured Jamie had inherited some of his devious mums darker attributes.

He later had an affair with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and ran over Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), going to great lengths to conceal his crime and making an enemy of the Dingle clan in the process.

He later cheats on new girlfriend Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) with Gabby Thomas’ (Rosie Bentham), getting her pregnant.

After a campaign of poisoning his mum, Jamie faked his own death and fled the village with his young daughter, Millie (Willow Belle).

Alexander’s career has gone from strength to strength following his Emmerdale departure, appearing in a number of film projects, including the critically acclaimed piece In from the Side, which showed an adulterous affair between two rugby players.

‘In From The Side offers a glimpse into the life of a group of friends who play rugby together and happen to be gay. It’s different from pretty much every other film I’ve seen in recent years that falls under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, and it’s not a surprise that the film is being embraced by the mainstream.

‘With well-written characters, a truly engaging story and strong performances, In From The Side is without a doubt the best gay film that’s been released in a while, and it’s also one of the best films I’ve seen all year’ raved Pip Ellwood-Hughes for Entertainment Focus upon its release.

Alexander was met with some criticism, however, for playing a gay role as a (presumed) straight actor, leading him to reveal more about his own sexual identity.

‘I loved the movie, and its actors are still very handsome, but I still think that the actors are posing as gay, but they are not. Is it my doubt?’ a commenter said on Instagram, prompting Alexander to reply: ‘Thanks so much – really appreciate it! And no, I’m not straight.’

Since then, Alexander has gone on to open up more in regards to his own sexuality and the lack of representation of bisexuality in film.

‘I sort of flip flop, I’ll be honest with you, between thinking I need to be more definitive – because I want to see more bisexual stories out there.
