Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers has issued an apology to fans after being forced to withdraw from a landmark event for the soap, with her ‘glorious’ co-star stepping in to fill her shoes.
The actress, who is loved for her role as DS Lisa Swain on the ITV soap, was due to be part of the cast for the forthcoming An Audience with Coronation Street tour.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that fans could get up close and personal with some of Corrie’s biggest stars as they embarked on their own theatre show. Described as an “unforgettable night on the cobbles”, the new tour features guest appearances from Corrie favourites Simon Gregson, Jack P Shepherd and Patti Clare, sparking huge excitement among soap fans.
Hosted by This Morning’s soap expert, Sharon Marshall, An Audience with Coronation Street will include interviews with famous faces from the show, touring various locations across the UK in September
However, Vicky, who was set to appear at the Glasgow show on September 24, has confirmed that due to changes in filming schedules, she can no longer attend, reports the Mirror.
On Thursday, the soap star expressed her disappointment on Instagram, writing on her Story: “I’m so, so, sorry to miss the Glasgow show for An Audience with Coronation Street on 24th September. Due to unavoidable last-minute schedule changes, I won’t be able to be there.
“Every possible scheduling option was explored, however it was just not possible I’m afraid. This was completely out of my control.”
She went on to say: “In my place, I am delighted that the legend and utterly gorgeous ‘Sunshine Sue Devaney’ will be joining the line-up instead – she is going to be amazing – she IS amazing!”.
Vicky concluded by saying: “I know it’ll be an incredible evening celebrating 65 years of Corrie magic. I’ll be there in spirit. Sorry, Vicky. “
The news was also confirmed via a statement on Corrie’s official Instagram page, which read: “As we head towards the exciting An Audience With Coronation Street tour, we are sharing the news that due to an unavoidable and complicated change in her filming schedule, Vicky is no longer able to join the Glasgow show on September 24th.
“Due to unavoidable last-minute schedule changes, I won’t be able to be there. Every possible scheduling option was explored, however it was just not possible i’m afraid. This was completely out of my control.”
“Sue Devaney will now take to the stage in her stead. Vicky is deeply disappointed that she can’t be there. It’s crucial to note that she had no prior knowledge or influence over her schedule.”
