John has been causing chaos in the Dales since arriving in the village last year, killing Nate Robinson and holding Mackenzie Boyd captive. The actor was quizzed about the aftermath of the cliff fall, but kept tight-lipped. However, he did tease: “All I will say is there’s more to come, of course there’s going to be more to come.”

An Emmerdale clip was then played, which appeared to show John moving as he lay on the ground after the tumble.

As hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley speculated about whether they had seen him move, Oliver agreed: “I think we might have done.”

The presenters also questioned what was going to happen to Mack (Lawrence Robb), who remains trapped in a bunker.

“Sadly John is his only lifeline,” said Oliver. “So I mean, that’s not a great prediction of being is it? But yeah, John is the key to Mack’s survival really.”

“I came in with a complete backstory, which is just really, really helpful because then you can decide how to make your choices,” he said.

“I came into the Sugdens, so that was a blessing as well. I’m working with Danny Miller everyday so, absolute legend, love that guy, but yeah, you get all the drama, you get the storylines and it’s just an absolute rollercoaster.”
