EastEnders lines up jeopardy for Jean in emotional Stacey exit story

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has lined up some jeopardy for Jean Slater in an emotional storyline surrounding Stacey’s exit, with the beloved character seemingly at a loss following her daughter’s bold decision.

Back in May, it was announced that Stacey actor Lacey Turner would be departing the BBC soap after 17 years in the role, with the figure set to leave East London later this year.

Viewers will know that Stacey has been preparing to leave Walford to start a new life in Brazil after her brother Sean invited her to go and live with him.

In yesterday’s (25 September) episode, Stacey told daughter Lily that she had booked their flights to South America, but Lily had a change of heart as she stated that she didn’t want to go.

In next week’s scenes, Stacey’s own plans are thrown in the air when her ex-lover Max Branning, who has been having a secret affair with her cousin Zoe, unexpectedly turns up in Albert Square.

Following Max’s return, Stacey begins to have second thoughts about moving across the world, though she does decide to go ahead with the plan after some encouragement from Lily and Zoe.

Stacey and Mo try to get hold of Jean, but unbeknownst to them, Jean is stuck on the tube with Priya and is unaware of the full extent of the drama that is unfolding at home.

Priya helps to calm Jean down as she has a panic attack on the stationary train. Will she get back to Walford in time to say goodbye to her daughter?

Following the announcement of Turner’s exit, a BBC spokesperson promised more drama for Stacey while confirming that the door would always be open for the actor to come back.

“We can confirm that Lacey will be off-screen later this year, but there is plenty of more drama to come beforehand and we will look forward to planning Stacey’s return when Lacey decides the time is right,” they said in a statement.

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
