The 52-year-old arrived in Walford as Ronnie Mitchell alongside her on-screen sister Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) back in 2007. From that point on, the troublesome siblings found themselves in a lot of drama.

One of the pair’s most memorable storylines was when Roxy had an affair with Ronnie’s fiancé Jack Branning, played by Scott Maslen.

In later shocking scenes in 2017, the Mitchell sisters died when they drowned in a hotel swimming pool hours after Ronnie and Jack married.

Despite their tragic deaths, fans haven’t given up hope for a miraculous return. Samantha has even received fan theories on how Ronnie could reappear on the Square.

Following Michelle Ryan’s sensational return to EastEnders as Zoe Slater after two decades, Samantha commented: “We’ve had so many people ask me [about a return]. The only way we could return is if it wasn’t actually a real death.”

Samantha said some fans have sent her theories about her death possibly being fake. Recalling one story she read, one viewer claimed that Ronnie could’ve taken a drug to temporarily halt her heartbeat.

They additionally highlighted that her relative, Billy Mitchell (played by Perry Fenwick), worked at an undertakers and could have helped fake a death plot.

Chuckling over fan theories, she said: “I mean, it’s soap, anything is possible but I don’t think it could be a Dallas dream, I don’t think soap does dreams the way Dallas did.”

While she is seemingly up for a soap comeback, Samantha said she wouldn’t do it without Rita by her side.

Reflecting on their close relationship, she added: “I would never go back without her, we’re joined at the hip really like the characters, they were one character, they were the same, the Mitchell sisters were like one organism.”

Following her soap exit, Samantha has graced West End stages in productions such as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and 42nd Street, while Rita has transitioned to Channel 4’s Hollyoaks and participated in ITV’s Drama Queens.

Quizzed on a potential comeback to EastEnders last year, she insisted she wasn’t interested in being another of the soap’s resurrected characters.

On Good Morning Britain, she quipped: “Listen, [there] was Dirty Den’s return, Michelle [Collins] as Cindy [Beale], I think in soap when you get asked to go in a coffin, you say no. I did!

“The thing is we’re at Hollyoaks now and I have to say, it’s gorgeous, it’s like coming home but just up north. I know how soap works, I know the system. I’m so comfortable there. So, for now, I love where I am.”
