Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey has confirmed plans for his character Brody Michaelis to discover the shocking truth about his biological father.
Fans were recently let in on a huge secret, as the ITV soap revealed that Kit Green may be Brody’s dad rather than evil thug Mick.
Mick’s toxic relationship with his wife Lou was rocked by the revelation last month, sparking a tragic chain of events on the cobbles.
Kit also knows the truth and has shared his knowledge with his mum Bernie Winter and girlfriend Sarah Barlow. For now, Brody remains in the dark about why Kit and Bernie seem so interested in his life.
Speaking exclusively to us at the British Soap Awards, Ryan confirmed that the big reveal isn’t too far away.
“That’s coming up very soon. I’m really excited for the world to see that,” he explained.
“Because obviously I think it’s getting [to the point] that every single person knows on the Street except for Brody! So it’s really exciting for that to come out. It’s definitely not a small secret when it comes out.
“I think it’s been bubbling. It’s been boiling – then when he finds out, it kind of just erupts. So filming those scenes with Jacob [Roberts, who plays Kit], it’s just been amazing with the directors and everything.
“When he finally figures out who his dad is, his mind’s blown.”
Asked whether Brody could ever accept Kit as his father, Ryan replied: “It’s very early days. I think it’s hard because he’s always had his father figure, who’s been Mick.
“He’s had quite a fragile relationship with Mick, so I think his depictions of what a dad and a male is, is very messed up. I think he’s finding that difficult.
“He’s adding another dad to the mix, so that’s going to be absolute turmoil. But it’s drama and that’s what we like a soap for!”
“I think it’s going to be hard for him, but all he needs is love,” he added. “And if Kit can bring that, I’m sure Brody will accept that as time goes on.”
Ryan also expressed his hopes that fans will grow to see a more likeable side to Brody in the coming weeks.
He laughed: “Brody gets himself involved in a lot of situations. He’s a right little rebel!
“Probably the biggest thing that’s coming up for him, he gets a new job and it probably doesn’t go the way it should do.
“I can’t really say much more, but it’s a lot of excitement. He carries on being a bit of an idiot, but a loveable idiot – I like to think anyway! But it’s just really exciting for him.”
The British Soap Awards 2025 took place at the Hackney Empire in London on Saturday evening (31 May).
