Coronation Star Tony Maudsley has shared a throwback from his time on Brookside as the soap is set to return for a one-off special episode.

Affectionately known as Brookie, the hit Channel 4 soap ran from 1982 to 2003, and will make a comeback as part of a crossover episode with its successor, Hollyoaks, to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The episode will air in October and will honour Brookside and its creator, Sir Phil Redmond, who is also known for writing Grange Hill. The crossover episode will see the return of iconic Brookside characters to mark the milestone, including Ricky Tomlinson as Bobby Grant and Sue Johnston as Sheila Grant.

Tony, 57, arrived in Weatherfield as undertaker George in 2020 as the son of Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd), and has seem his fair share of drama.

In August 2022, George was joined by his sister, Glenda (Jodie Prenger) and he had also found love with local legend Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).

But their romance wasn’t meant to be after she ditched him earlier this year after leaving the cobbles for a new life in Thailand following the death of her sister, Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh).

Before landing the role on the ITV soap, Tony starred on the popular sitcom Benidorm as hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke between 2011 and 2018.

The soap star has also made appearances in a long list of other television series including New Tricks, Holby City, Poirot, Doc Martin, The Bill and many more. Tony also played Grawp in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

In 1988, Tony arrived in Brookside playing an extra and has shared a memory from his time on the Channel 4 soap with his followers on X (formerly known as Twitter).

He captioned the image: “When I was an extra on Brookside. About 1988.”

Fans wasted no time I’m sharing their surprise at Tony’s Brookside appearance with one person writing: “No way”, while a second simply added; “Ohh.”

“Love it! You haven’t changed a bit”, stated one person as another chimed in: “Little did you know then what was ahead of you Tony now a Corrie legend #Corrie.”

While one Brookside fan asked: “Did you play a kid called bumper?”, while another also enquired: “Was that your first tv?”.
