Coronation Street’s Rita Tanner announces big change after 52 years

The soap legend makes the surprise announcement as a favour to her former foster daughter Jenny Connor, who’s in desperate need of a new job.

Jenny’s time in charge of the Rovers Return is coming to an end as the pub’s owner Carla Connor has decided to sell to new owners.

In tonight’s episode, Jenny confirms that the deeds to the pub have been officially signed over to Carla. Although Jenny is still in charge for the time being, it’s clear that her days are numbered with the planned sale now inevitable.

Later, Jenny boldly asks Kabin owner Brian Packham whether he has any jobs available at the local newsagents.

Brian insists that he’s fully staffed – not least with Rita still working there – but the local legend appears to have other ideas…

“I wouldn’t be hasty, love,” Rita explains. “I’m a woman of a certain age and I’m hoping to wind down a little. And I’m sure there may be some vacancies.”

Brian scoffs at the idea of losing “a vital cog in the machine”, but Rita replies: “Well, this old cog is going to wear out if I don’t ease up. So think on!”

Finally satisfied, Brian respects Rita’s wishes and tells Jenny that she’s hired.

While it doesn’t sound like Rita wants to bow out altogether, her plans to cut back mark a change in direction for the soap icon. After all, she’s been associated with The Kabin in different roles since 1973.

Rita was previously owner of the newsagents, although she sold her remaining share of the business to Norris Cole in 2009 and stayed on as one of the staff. Brian bought the shop in 2019.

Corrie fans have noticed The Kabin appearing far less frequently in recent years – could that change with Jenny now moving over for a fresh start? Let’s hope so…

The show airs these scenes tonight at 8pm on ITV1, while the episode is streaming now on ITVX.

While Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle faces betrayal, secrets, and emotional chaos on screen, the man behind the role—Danny Miller—has never looked happier in real life. The beloved soap actor has shared a deeply moving update that has fans in tears for all the right reasons: his growing family. Just weeks after welcoming his third child, Danny took to Instagram to post a joyful holiday snap with wife Steph and their children—marking their first trip away as a family of five. Beaming from the pool with their two older kids, Albert and Edith, Danny captioned the post with simple yet powerful words: “Family: where life begins and love never ends.” It was a moment of pure contrast to the heartache unfolding for Aaron in Emmerdale. On the show, Aaron has had a turbulent 2025: still reeling from Anthony Fox’s death, navigating a tense marriage to John Sugden, and facing the emotional return of his ex-husband, Robert. Viewers know that while Aaron appears loyal to John for now, he remains dangerously unaware of John’s darkest secret—John accidentally killed Nate Robinson while trying to “save” him. It’s only a matter of time before Aaron’s world unravels again. But off-screen? Danny is basking in peace and gratitude. The actor, who made his Emmerdale debut as Aaron in 2008, has tackled countless emotionally wrenching scenes over the years—from struggles with identity to heartbreak and loss. And yet, fans say his latest real-life post shows more joy than even his happiest fictional moment. Holding his wife, with children clinging to his side and a newborn in their arms, Danny’s happiness is radiant. Just days earlier, Danny had posted a heartwarming welcome to the newest member of the family: “Welcome Vincent Miller. Born 10/07/25, Weighing 8lb 8oz. We could not be happier with our family of 5.” The video of Albert and Edith meeting their baby brother for the first time only added to the emotional impact—brother and sister walking hand-in-hand toward their mum, their eyes filled with curiosity and wonder. The response online was overwhelming. Fans flooded the comments with love: “Gorgeous wee family, it’s heartwarming to see”, one wrote. Another added, “Love watching your family grow.” And perhaps the most touching message of all came from Danny himself, just days before: “Never in my life did I think I’d find happiness of this level… so here’s a picture to describe it for me.” While Aaron Dingle may be on the verge of heartbreak, Danny Miller is living a chapter filled with love, legacy, and new beginnings. It’s a beautiful reminder that even when fiction brings tears, real life can offer peace.
