EastEnders devotees are on tenterhooks over Jean Slater’s (Gillian Wright) future, as it seems the illicit affair of her partner Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) is on the brink of being revealed.
In a bid to express their gratitude towards the diligent Harvey, Jean and the Slaters had arranged a makeshift campsite in the garden as a consolation for the botched caravan holiday they had planned.
Encouraged by the Slaters, Harvey hurriedly sought out Kathy, his clandestine lover, declaring his readiness to part ways with Jean so they could finally be together.
Believing that Harvey was reluctant to marry her, a disheartened Jean confided in Kathy at the café, attributing the deterioration of their relationship to her own mental health struggles, reports Plymouth Live.
Later in the episode, Harvey tried to delicately handle Jean’s ill-timed proposal, but only ended up exacerbating the situation, inadvertently agreeing to wed her following a prolonged engagement.
As Harvey and Kathy called time on their affair, they shared a poignant farewell kiss. However, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) stumbled upon them during their emotional parting, capturing the entire scene on her mobile phone.
EastEnders enthusiasts are now sure that the unveiling of Harvey and Kathy’s affair will catapult Jean’s mental wellbeing into turmoil, as she’s already grappling with grief from Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) departure.
Since her 2004 debut in Walford, Jean has won over viewers’ hearts. Her struggle with bipolar disorder has been a poignant part of her storyline, and fans are concerned that her current predicaments will tip her mental health balance.
On a social platform, one viewer lamented: “#EastEnders Really feel for Jean. I just hope this doesn’t affect her bipolar. Harvey needs to tell her the truth.”
Another commented: “#Eastenders Jean having a nervous breakdown.”
A different fan sympathised: “Yes Jean has treated Harvey terribly recently but I felt sorry for her tonight. She doesn’t deserve to be treated like this by Harvey. I hope Jean doesn’t have another manic episode as a result of the affair reveal. #EastEnders.”
In support of the character, a fourth exclaimed: “I’m not very lovable YOU ARE JEAN #eastenders,” while another noted the morbid wedding vows: “Jean said we might not be alive in 2028 as part of her vows. How charming #EastEnders”.
