Emmerdale is set to welcome a new villager which will cause chaos for farmer Moira Dingle and vet Paddy Kirk.

Newcomer Celia, played by esteemed actress Jaye Griffiths, who is a neighbouring tenant farmer, calls on Moira to enquire if she can rent two of her fields.

However, Moira is quick to shrug her off but Celia clearly means business. It is soon revealed that Celia’s reputation precedes her as Moira isn’t keen to deal with this woman despite bad finances on her own farm.

Things take an even more dramatic turn when vet Paddy is brutally attacked and hospitalised by one of Celia’s guard dogs as fans start to get the measure of her true character from her reaction to the attack.

A synopsis reveals: “Celia is renting a neighbouring farm in Emmerdale from Kim Tate, but with the Bartons and Sugdens as farming families already well established within the community there is definitely conflict on its way.”

Emmerdale producer, Laura Shaw, teased of the new character: “We are absolutely delighted to have Jaye Griffiths joining us to play the role of Celia.

“Having recently taken over a nearby farm, not much is known about mysterious Celia’s past before arriving on the outskirts of the village.

“While Celia has a tough edge with an air of respectability, the audience, and our villagers, will soon start to see what this woman is truly capable of.”

Meanwhile, Celia actress Jaye, 61, added: “I was delighted to get this role – without giving the game away she is very different to anyone I have played before and I can’t wait to really get into the heart of her storyline.”

Soap fans and television watchers will recognise Celia actress Jaye thanks to her impressive career over the years.

Jaye played Sally Johnson in The Bill from 1993 to 2003, Elle Gardner in Casualty from 2016 to 2019, Dr. Elizabeth Croft in Doctors and Prof. Janet Mander in Silent Witness from 2008 to 2012 – to name just a few credits.

The news comes amid a troubling time for Moira on the farm. Only recently, during the bitter feud between evil John Sugden and Mackenzie Boyd, John, in an act of vengeance, opened up the farm’s slurry tank, causing chaos with an innocent Mack getting the blame.

But the plot thickened when Cain Dingle disclosed that the slurry had contaminated the main water supply, leading to John’s nephew, Harry, being hospitalised after ingesting the polluted water.

Moira was then hit with even more shattering news as she learnt that insurance wouldn’t cover the costs of cleaning up the slurry spill as she contemplated shutting down the farm after 16 years.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV and ITV X at 7.30pm with an hour-long episode on Thursdays and is available to stream from 7am on ITV X.
