FAREWELL QUEEN! Home and Away Veteran Bags Double Logie Win

The 2025 Logie Awards absolutely lit up with the red-carpet glamour, emotional speeches, and standout wins. While streaming platforms battled for recognition, new names made their mark, and a Home and Away icon took centre stage in the most memorable moment of the evening.

The Perfect Farewell

Home and Away fans braced for change this year. In February, Lynne McGranger announced she would leave her role as Irene Roberts after 32 years. Her final scenes will air in August, closing the longest run by a female actor in any Australian drama.

Lynne bagged two Logies for Home and Away

Viewers and colleagues poured out tributes, celebrating nearly 33 years of her work. As the 65th Logie Awards approached, many wondered if the night would honour her incredible contribution, especially with streamers dominating nominations.

Lynne McGranger’s Big Night

McGranger won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television. She told the crowd she felt thrilled and honoured, joking that she would place the trophy next to her first acting prize from the 1974 Wagga Wagga drama festival. She thanked Home and Away’s writers and crew, stressing that soaps provide steady jobs for actors and crew even if critics dismiss them.

Lynne reminded the audience the show has run for 38 years and continues strong. At 72, she praised her fellow nominees; Lisa Millar, Ally Langdon, Sonia Kruger, Julia Morris, Poh Ling Yeow, and Hamish Blake, calling them fierce women of all ages. She didn’t stop there. McGranger also won best lead actress in a drama, beating Kaitlyn Dever for Apple Cider Vinegar and Anna Torv for Territory.

Other Highlights of the Night

ABC’s Fisk dominated, taking home five awards. Kitty Flanagan won best lead actress in a comedy for the second year in a row. Aaron Chen claimed best lead actor, while Julia Zemiro and Glenn Butcher secured supporting wins. Flanagan said she felt delighted families had embraced the show, joking that audiences enjoyed watching a middle-aged woman in a baggy suit.

ABC racked up more victories. Return to Paradise won best drama, Australian Story took best current affairs, Muster Dogs: Collies & Kelpies earned best structured reality, and Four Corners’ Betrayal of Trust grabbed best news coverage. Magda Szubanski entered the Hall of Fame with a pre-recorded speech after revealing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. She made clear she received the honour for 40 years of work, not her illness.

Streamers went home with few wins despite dominating nominations. Netflix managed one award, with Apple Cider Vinegar named best miniseries. Sam Neill won best lead actor for The Twelve, while Fisk swept supporting comedy categories and McGranger took the top drama prize. The Logies balanced fresh faces with long-time favourites, but McGranger owned the night. Her Gold Logie gave her the perfect farewell after more than three decades on Home and Away. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest updates and inside stories from the world of soaps.
