FBI Season 8 Just Got a Major Upgrade with ‘SVU’ Star Joining the Team!

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit alum is hopping over to another Dick Wolf property. Deadline announced that Juliana Aidén Martinez is joining the cast of Season 8 of FBI as a series regular. While Deadline reports no details have been released about Martinez character, the news comes just two months after it was announced that she would be departing the Wolf’s longest-running police procedural, SVU, after signing on as Detective Kate Silva for a single season. Within the world of FBI, Stuart Scola (John Boyd) is on the hunt for a new partner after Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane)’s departure, which could potentially be, Martinez’s character.

The ‘FBI’ Universe Is Expanding, But Later Than Expected

Martinez’s casting on FBI comes just days after a few disappointing updates coming out of FBI‘s newest upcoming spin-off, CIA. The show will be led by Tom Ellis (Lucifer), who will play Hart Hoxton. The show was originally slated for a fall release alongside the eighth season of FBI, but it was revealed on Friday that the series would instead be pushed to a midseason premiere. There’s not been much movement on the series development publicly, so it’s not a huge surprise but a disappointing one regardless for fans. Tom Ellis is the only confirmed cast member even after the recent news.

The reason for the shakeup also comes as a new showrunner steps in. It was announced that David Hudgins would be stepping away as showrunner of the Ellis-led spin-off and instead longtime Wolf Entertainment collaborator Warren Leight would be stepping in. Leight previously served as SVU‘s showrunner twice, and also helped to develop Law & Order: Organized Crime and also served as showrunner on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Now Leight will serve as showrunner on one of the Wolf Entertainment shows on CBS, rather than NBC. Right now, there are a lot of elements up in the air for CIA, with FBI cast member Jeremy Sisto providing an ambiguous update if cast members from the flagship show would appear in CIA.

“This new CIA show is something that I’m hoping to be a part of. I hope that Jubal Valentine can help out with the CIA situation, but you don’t know. We don’t know if it will happen. I don’t know if I will get the call. We’ll see. But Jubal would love it. Alright, what’s next?”
