A Tragic Farewell in Summer Bay
It’s been an emotional week for Home and Away fans as Theo Poulos met a heartbreaking end in scenes that stunned Australian viewers. The beloved character, played by Matt Evans, was tragically killed after being hit by a car driven by Craig Wendell — just moments after Cash and Eden’s wedding celebrations.
Theo’s death marked a devastating close to one of the soap’s most popular storylines. But according to Evans, the actor behind the character, he originally imagined a very different — and far less final — ending.
“I Wanted Him to Pursue a Music Career”
Speaking to Chattr, Matt Evans revealed that he’d hoped Theo would leave Summer Bay to chase his musical dreams. “Well, originally, I wanted him to go and pursue a music career,” he said with a laugh. “That would have been really cool — but that story was already given to Kirby!”
Throughout his time on the show, Theo’s passion for music defined much of his journey. As the lead singer of Lyrik, he captured fans’ hearts with his charm and talent. A musical exit, Evans said, would have felt natural — but in true Home and Away fashion, fate had other plans.
Dying a Hero
While his end wasn’t the one he envisioned, Evans said he was ultimately proud of Theo’s send-off. “I actually love that it was written that way,” he shared. “It’s quite a heroic way to go out.”
Theo’s final moments came as he sacrificed himself to save his love interest, Lacey — a bittersweet end that cements him as one of the Bay’s most selfless heroes. “Once I saw the storyline, that Theo was going to be dying, I quite liked it,” Evans continued. “I knew it was going to be a big, impactful story.”
Gratitude and a New Chapter
Evans took a moment to thank fans for their support during his four-year run. “Thanks so much for the support over the last four years,” he said warmly. “A lot of that positivity and appreciation for the character is what kept me going. I really hope that you all enjoyed Theo as much as I did — it was a great chapter of my life.”
What’s Next for Matt Evans
While music played a big part in both his life and Theo’s, Evans revealed that his focus has shifted back to acting — for now. “I’ve been back auditioning again and really enjoying that process,” he said. “It just feels like it’s really aligning for me right now. That doesn’t mean I’ll never go back to music, but acting has been taking priority.”
Theo’s time in Home and Away may have come to a tragic close, but for Matt Evans, it’s clear his story — both on screen and off — is only just beginning.
