In an exciting development sure to thrill die-hard fans, NBC is launching the first-ever One Chicago Podcast—an exclusive behind-the-scenes audio experience that brings fans closer than ever to the world of Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med. The podcast will offer an insider’s perspective into the making of the franchise, featuring cast interviews, writers’ room secrets, and never-before-heard stories from the crew.
Set to debut this fall, the One Chicago Podcast is not just a marketing add-on; it’s a full-fledged storytelling companion that explores the universe beyond what we see on screen. It marks NBC’s first major push into podcasting for a scripted television franchise, following the footsteps of platforms like HBO and Marvel that have successfully used audio content to deepen fan engagement.
A Fan Experience Years in the Making
For years, One Chicago fans have flooded social media with questions, theories, and a craving for more content between episodes. Who comes up with those heart-stopping cliffhangers? What’s it really like filming an explosion in downtown Chicago? How do the actors prepare for the intense emotional arcs their characters go through?

Now, those questions will finally have answers. Each week, the One Chicago Podcast will drop a new episode featuring behind-the-scenes insights, interviews with stars and guest actors, as well as commentary from showrunners, producers, and even the real-life consultants who help ground the show in reality.
“This franchise has the most passionate fans we’ve ever seen,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “The podcast is our love letter to them. We want to give fans the backstage pass they’ve always dreamed of.”
What to Expect from the One Chicago Podcast

Each episode of the podcast—expected to run between 30 and 45 minutes—will be themed around a particular moment, storyline, or department. One episode might dissect a major crossover event, while another might dive into the life of a paramedic on Chicago Fire. Expect deep dives into favorite arcs like Voight’s redemption path, Burgess’s motherhood journey, or Will Halstead’s complex medical ethics dilemmas.
Here’s a glimpse at the first few planned episodes:
- Episode 1: The Birth of One Chicago — An oral history of how Chicago Fire led to an entire shared universe.
- Episode 2: Hank Voight: Antihero or Angel of Justice? — Jason Beghe joins to discuss his iconic role.
- Episode 3: The Med Files — Real doctors talk about what the show gets right (and wrong).
- Episode 4: Behind the Flames — Stunt coordinators and actors reveal how fire rescues are filmed.
The podcast will also feature fun segments like Fan Questions of the Week, Deleted Scene Spotlights, and Set Secrets, where crew members reveal the hidden meanings or easter eggs that only true fans might catch.
Hosted by Familiar Voices
In a move that already has fans buzzing, the One Chicago Podcast will be hosted by Chicago Fire’s own Joe Minoso (Cruz) and Chicago Med’s Torrey DeVitto (Natalie Manning). Both actors are known for their lively personalities and deep love for the franchise, making them perfect guides through this new audio adventure.
“Hosting this podcast is like sitting around the firehouse table with fans,” Minoso said in a teaser clip. “We’re going to laugh, cry, and maybe even spill a few secrets.”
In addition to regular hosts, the podcast will bring on guest co-hosts for themed weeks. Patrick John Flueger (Ruzek), Kara Killmer (Brett), and Marlyne Barrett (Maggie) are all reportedly confirmed to make appearances in the first season.
Building a Community, One Episode at a Time
What sets this podcast apart is its interactive approach. NBC is planning live podcast tapings during One Chicago Day, fan-submitted questions, and contests where lucky winners can have their voices featured in upcoming episodes. Fans can also vote for which storylines they want future podcast episodes to explore.
Social media tie-ins will include exclusive behind-the-scenes clips, sneak peeks at the podcast recording sessions, and even bonus audio content available on Peacock.
NBC’s digital content team is treating this not just as a promotional tool, but as a standalone storytelling platform. “We want it to feel essential to the One Chicago experience,” explained digital executive producer Jennifer Mendez. “Whether you’re a day-one fan or just discovered the franchise last month, this podcast will have something for you.”
