While the One Chicago universe has brought us countless beloved characters, some of them don’t always get the screen time or storylines they truly deserve. Across Chicago Fire,
Chicago Med, and Chicago PD, there are six characters who are long overdue for more attention from the writers.
Violet Mikami in Chicago Fire
It’s no secret that Chicago Fire often focuses heavily on the dynamic between Stellaride, leaving other characters somewhat sidelined. While Violet and Ritter have received some storylines lately,
Violet especially deserves more depth. Her growth and potential haven’t been fully explored, and there’s room for her to take on bigger, more emotional challenges. With her compassionate and dedicated personality, Violet has the potential to shine in more dramatic, high-stakes situations beyond her current roles.
Dr. Sam Abrams in Chicago Med
Dr. Sam Abrams is one of those characters who can easily get overlooked. While he has had some backstory and has been involved in a few noteworthy moments, we don’t often see his true depth. A recent episode highlighted his heart and commitment when he handled a sensitive case involving a child needing brain surgery, even going so far as to braid her hair to ensure it wouldn’t get in the way. Moments like this show a more caring side of him, but we need more of these glimpses into his personality. The writers could benefit from fleshing him out further, making him a more integral part of the Chicago Med team.
Kevin Atwater in Chicago PD
Kevin Atwater has been a mainstay on Chicago PD for years, yet his character often gets the short end of the stick. Despite his long tenure, Atwater has faced few significant promotions or relationship arcs, and it’s high time for the writers to give him more substantial storylines. While season 12 has introduced a potential love interest for him and explored his caring nature toward the residents in his building, Atwater deserves a more prominent role in the investigations and action-packed moments that have defined Chicago PD. There’s so much potential for growth, and fans want to see him step into a more central role.
Kiana Cook in Chicago PD
Though Kiana Cook is still new to Chicago PD, the writers have a great opportunity to expand her character. As a recent addition to the team, she hasn’t had much screen time, and we haven’t seen her bond with Intelligence as much as we’d like. Her character has so much untapped potential, and it would be great to see her integrate more into the team dynamic. With time, Kiana could become an essential part of the squad, but that only happens if the writers give her more development and screen time.
Sergeant Trudy Platt in Chicago PD
Trudy Platt has proven herself time and time again, and it’s long overdue for her to get more recognition. While she’s had some standout moments, like in the crossover event where she risked her life to help gather crucial intel, her role often feels underappreciated. As a desk sergeant with a background in parole, Platt has the skills and experience to contribute much more to the team. The writers could give her more investigative storylines, where she can use her unique skills to aid Intelligence in ways that go beyond her desk duties.
Capp in Chicago Fire
Capp and Tony are often the comedic relief in Chicago Fire, but Capp, in particular, deserves more attention from the writers. He’s often seen as the “dumb” one, but this isn’t an accurate representation of his character. Capp has proven himself to be a caring and intelligent member of Firehouse 51, but he often gets overlooked when it comes to substantial storylines. The writers should explore more of his personal life, ideas, and interactions with the team to show that he’s more than just comic relief.
Sam Carver in Chicago Fire
Sam Carver had a notable storyline with Tory, but it was rushed and left many fans wanting more. There was potential for a deeper exploration of his character, especially regarding his past and current struggles. We’ve already seen hints that Carver might be attending an AA meeting, but the show hasn’t delved deeply into his backstory. There’s more to Carver’s character than we’ve been shown, and the writers need to spend more time fleshing out his past and personal struggles, which could add significant layers to his role at Firehouse 51.
These characters, while all integral parts of their respective shows, deserve more airtime and attention. With more focus on their growth, storylines, and relationships, they could become even more beloved by One Chicago fans.
