Taylor Sheridan cast Sam Elliott in Landman season 2, but the executive producer of the Yellowstone franchise has an even more genius casting of a Western movie legend. Sheridan cast Elliott as a co-lead of 1883, the first prequel of Taylor’s flagship Yellowstone series.

Sam Elliott joins Landman season 2 as the father of Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). Sam and Billy Bob were both in 1883, and now they reunite in the oilfields of South Texas in Taylor Sheridan’s latest hit series on Paramount+.

Taylor Sheridan’s ability to cast A-list talent in his TV series began with Kevin Costner in Yellowstone. Huge names like Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Sylvester Stallone, Jeremy Renner, Demi Moore, and Michelle Pfeiffer have since signed to star in various TV shows created by Sheridan.

If Val Kilmer, who played Doc Holliday in Tombstone, hadn’t passed away from throat cancer and pneumonia in 2005, Taylor Sheridan would probably have cast him in a Yellowstone project as well.
