An old flame of Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine)’s is set to reappear in his life in upcoming Coronation Street episodes – but the story that comes out about their former relationship leaves eyebrows raised.
When Tim picks up a woman in his cab, he instantly recognises her as his former girlfriend from way back, Trisha Pinkerton, whom he knew in the 1980s.
Later on, he’s at the Rovers on a mission to cheer up his mate Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who’s feeling down after his marriage break-up. To Tim’s surprise, Trisha walks in to the pub.
He explains to Kevin, Steve (Simon Gregson) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that she’s a former girlfriend. While Tyrone and Steve are amused, Kevin is instantly disapproving.
He’s worried that Tim might be tempted to cheat on Sally (Sally Dynevor) with this woman and Kevin is still very protective of his ex wife.
It looks like Kevin might be right to feel troubled, because when Trisha turns up at the cab office the next day it seems that she might be interested in rekindling things with Tim.
Sally is certainly put out when she arrives at the cab office and finds Trisha there, accusing Tim of ‘entertaining’ his former girlfriend.
After Sally has gone, Tim reminisces about Trisha to Brian (Peter Gunn), and that’s when he reveals a shocking fact. He says when they got together, Trisha was almost 20 – while he was only 14 years old, two years below the legal age of consent. Former teacher Brian is disturbed by this information.
In fact he’s so shocked that when Trisha calls back on another occasion looking for Tim, Brian is very abrupt with her and accuses her of grooming Tim – who was a child when they met.
Trisha is angered by this accusation and Tim leaps in to defend her, but Brian is adamant and tells Tim to face the facts about what happened to him when he was 14 – he was groomed by a 20 year old woman.
Later, Sally wants to know more about Trisha and is shocked when Tim reveals that he lost his virginity to her.
With Trisha apparently intent on being back in Tim’s life, could he be tempted into a relationship with her again?
Or will he come to realise that what happened to him when he was younger was actually abuse?
